Where sales resumes lose ATS points

Sales resumes tend to fail the same handful of checks — usually not because the numbers weren't strong, but because they never made it onto the page.

Quota language without the number
"Consistently exceeded sales targets" tells an ATS and a hiring manager nothing they can score. "Achieved 128% of $1.2M annual quota for 3 consecutive years" gives both a keyword match and a real signal of performance.
Pipeline and deal metrics missing
Average deal size, win rate, sales cycle length, pipeline generated — these are the numbers that separate one AE resume from another. Leaving them out means a strong quarter reads the same as a mediocre one.
CRM and methodology keywords absent
Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, MEDDIC, SPIN, Challenger — these aren't jargon, they're exactly what a recruiter's ATS search filters on. If your resume only implies the tools and process through prose, the keyword match never fires.
Team results and individual contribution blurred
"Helped drive regional revenue growth" doesn't separate your own number from the team's. Both an ATS parse and a hiring manager need to see what you personally closed, not what your territory closed around you.

Frequently asked questions

Does this check for specific CRMs or sales methodologies?

The underlying check looks for real work-history dates, quantified achievements, and standard section structure — not a fixed list of tools. It works the same whether you sell on Salesforce or HubSpot, MEDDIC or Challenger, because the things that trip up ATS parsing are structural, not vendor-specific.

I'm in an SDR or base-plus-commission role without a formal "quota" title — will this still work?

Yes. The checks look at your resume document itself (contact info, section headers, length, quantified achievements, wording), not your title or comp structure. Activity metrics — meetings booked, pipeline sourced, conversion rate — count the same way quota attainment does.

Is this free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes — completely free, no account required. Upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT resume and get your score instantly. Nothing is stored.

How is this different from the general ATS Resume Score Checker?

Same underlying tool (ResumeIQ) and the same scoring engine — this page just speaks directly to sales resumes, with guidance tuned to the mistakes that specifically cost sales candidates screener visibility.
